There's not really a limitation to moves, Water could fly through the sky with ice platforms if they wanted, but they didn't, (earth could aswell)

Also, Air could just fly if the manipulated the wind currents correctly around them, yet they didn't (Zaheer used something different)

I don't know if its intentional or not, but when you throw the lava, it doesn't revert, it just stays.
