Naw, if they want to disable it, they should use chi. But i agree it shouldnt go right through airshield. Then again, it should just be 1 hit to completely lose your concentration on the ability. (That makes airbenders look like they have the concentration of a 5 year old)

Fire is a single source element, the reason why it is only able to project its element from a singular point is because it is unable to control flames it didnt project.

I agree. Earth is the element of substance. Meaning more or less that you need to be atleast in contact with what substance you want to bend. Besides, a point and click earthsmash or earthblast would just be too much.

Fire is fire because it is unstable and rampid. Its not a bullet, and its not a death ray. Its the effect of a chemical mixing with oxygen to give off light smoke and heat, literally like a more contained explosion.
