LoL heroes do have a lot of personality from the few that I have seen, and other then the hero Bio there is little lore in Dota so those are pluses if you want that in a moba. Both games have pretty unique characters. Overall, I feel Dota 2 is the more complex game, but the two biggest plusses...

A whip crack can break bones, so grabbing is not advised. Yeah, it depends on skill.

I think an expert whip user could defeat an swordsman. Watch the video of Adam Crack I posted on the last page.

I don't think you understand how whips work. A snap in a whip is literally the rope breaking the sound barrier, which can break bones. A swordsman can't approach without the risk of broken limbs.

I would rather use a kusarigama.

The chart in my opinion is unbalanced. A diamond sword (you know, made out of one of the hardest substances known to man) breaks after 7 uses? I think you are underestimating how often people would use this ability.
