One of three, if you do count raise earth / earth smash as mobility. We could say that clicking or tapping shift does a 1/4 catapult, but to go further you have to charge for at least 2 seconds?

Are you talking about the Earthbending ability tremorsense?.. With tremorsense, glowstone appears under your feet when you're in a dark place. (I think) you can disable it by binding tremorsense and clicking to toggle it off, but I'm not sure.

It isn't random, it's wherever you're facing when you initially shift.

Combo's needed updating, things broke because of it.

Well the majority don't use it. The only times it's slightly useable is when you combo with with torrent / surge freeze.
