Question about MetalBending

Hi, I've been pondering this question for some time now. We are all (hopefully) familiar with the Metalbending move known as "Extraction". In the description of it, it says that it can be used to remove quartz from netherrack. If you look in the config of your server, quartz blocks are considered as metal blocks by default. Before you start screaming "If you don't like it than change it! #YOLOSWAG", I am just curious as to why this is.

Maybe because it looks resembles as a metal bending object, despite of what it actually is (thats what I think atleast to why it is).

possible there figuring that since the nether is a different dimension it has different materials, elements (the periodic ones) and laws of physics so may it could have small parts made of metal (just remember its just a suggestion so i could be completely wrong lol):D
