With 1.9, pressing "f" should toggle on a second arm functionality that does additional stuff.
In this case we will go over Grapple. After pressing that, second hand gets turned on and in that hand you get a water or ice item in it.
While that's on, you can left/right click an obstacle that is 1 block width and 2 or 1. Clicking on it you will attach your tip of the waterarm and you'll be left hanging. In this part, you can swing. Yes I said, swing as if you were on a swing.
Now with another mouse key, once you get momentum, and depending by the momentum you got from swinging in that one area, you'll travel a certain distance by launching yourself. If you do that while not moving it all, you'll drop down - hopefully somewhere were you won't plump to your death.
You can swing from one structure to another, by constantly swapping different hands to act like Tarzan with his vine swinging around the places.
Doing "f" again will disable these whole additional functions, as you expected by now.
