I recently posted a picture displaying my SaoUI mod as well as my opinion on a suggestion. I thought "Gee Ender you're such a bad boy flashing your bling like that" So I came up with an idea. When I battle, I make sure I have several mods installed. Take a look if you're interested!
SaoUI:
This mod is inspired by the Japanese anime "Sword Art Online" and adds an extremely cool interface to Minecraft that is similar to the anime. In addition to making your inventory seem MMORPG like, this mod adds a small health gauge near entities that so you can check their heath.

Damage Indicators:
This neat little mod does what my SaoUI does not. Not only does it add enemy heath display, it also shows how much damage you do! This is helpful in determining which bending attacks are useful, and which are pointless depending on the server you are on.

Voxel Minimap (Zan's Minimap/Rei's Minimap)
I personally can no longer play Minecraft without either of these minimaps. It's like second nature for me to check my surroundings with an entity radar. Making this extremely useful for locating players in a large bending arena.

These mods, aside from SaoUI, are a requirement for me when I play MC now. Maybe you guys won't get as addicted, but they're still useful none the less in bending combat. Please note, I am not a genius when it comes to mod installation. I'm too lazy to actually give you help installing. So please use the download links for help.
