A quicksand ability add-on was actually made by one of the developers. You can find it in the Downloads > Abilities forum. It's pretty sweet.

Considering how well Toph trained her sandbending after finding herself helplessly blind in the desert the first time proves that any earthbenders can learn to sandbend. She even made a scale replica of Ba Sing Se using her sandbending.

I'm referring to the people that aren't spirits. They can't really travel freely between the two worlds without going to one of the poles or meditating into it, the latter making bending unusable.

I think any way you try to organize bending, it's gonna be messy. Mine is particularly bad, lol.

I think it makes enough sense considering the fact that firebenders have heat control in general. Firebenders are shown that they have the ability to heat up objects, including metal and water (to make tea!) There's a fine line between firebending and lavabending, but I'd like to extrapolate on...

Spout is a plugin that creates custom textures for items using Bukkit. Though, no one is very keen on using Spout. I suppose using it as an add-on could be possible...

Unless you're talking about using Spout, it's not possible. This is a plugin, not a mod.
