I think that if airbenders are caught by metalclips , they should take fall damage due to the fact that the metalbender is basically pulling him down forcibly.
EDIT : Even earth and water benders get damage too.

If it goes for airbenders, then all elements should have this happen to them... If you pull someone to the ground while metalclipping them, it doesn't do any fall damage.
